How to Be a Disciple in Today’s Manassas Baptist Church

“All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.”Matthew 28:18-20

Today, we have a challenging question. Are you a true disciple of Jesus Christ or just a Christian? The Bible has passages that are the blueprint to those who claim that they are. By understanding what these writings mean, you will know what the Lord expects from you.

But what makes a good disciple? Jesus knew what was in men's hearts. Today, a good disciple will take the initiative to listen to those around him or her. He or she will learn their names. He or she will take a keen interest in their everyday actions.

A good disciple means to be a shepherd over the Lord's flock because discipleship goes beyond belief. It's the commitment to act, to speak, and to reach out to bring those lost back to the fold. Here are ways that one can become a true disciple in a Manassas Baptist Church.

Know the Faith by Teaching the Word

One's faith is the solid cornerstone of being a disciple. Truly knowing the faith isn't memorizing the scriptures. It's about understanding the lessons ingrained within the Bible verses. Once absorbed, then you should teach. There is a difference between teaching and training. Teaching involves the imparting of information from one person to another. On the other hand, training requires more hands-on participation. It is not enough for you to simply communicate information through preaching or to explain the doctrines of the faith to one’s flock. It is your responsibility to teach his sheep how to pray, how to worship, and how to evangelize. It is also your responsibility on how they will engage in the ministries of the Manassas Baptist Church

When they had finished eating, Jesus said to Simon Peter, "Simon son of John, do you truly love me more than these?" "Yes, Lord," he said, "you know that I love you." Jesus said, "Feed my lambs." Again Jesus said, "Simon son of John, do you truly love me?" He answered, "Yes, Lord, you know that I love you." Jesus said, "Take care of my sheep." The third time he said to him, "Simon son of John, do you love me?" Peter was hurt because Jesus asked him the third time, "Do you love me?" He said, "Lord, you know all things; you know that I love you." Jesus said, "Feed my sheep". John 21:15-17

Put the Lord First and Know How to Abandon Selfishness

How does one put God first in the modern world? Your love and attachment to Him must be greater than any other. This can really be a problem considering the busy nature of living today. And this also includes loving the Savior more. No human relationship could be more intimate, no bond more inseparable than that of disciple and Master. Yes, you are told to love your wife and she is told to do the same thing. One must have the willingness to lay aside everything. Forget all these self-seeking desires and selfishness. Your only desire is to is not satisfy yourself but to please the Lord.

“In him and through faith in him we may approach God with freedom and confidence” Ephesians 3:12

When you make yourself available to the Lord, you’re giving Him control of your future. He will become your most trusted guide. At Calvary Road Baptist Church, no matter where you belong in life, we are glad to meet you. It is our desire to share with you the peace and joy of knowing God. We would love to see you in our morning and evening worships. Check our website for service times.

Romans 8:14-16, NIV, “For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God. The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.” The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children.” Dear God, Almighty Father, thank you for touching our hearts of your fatherly love. May you grant us that grace so that we may be worthy as your sons and daughters. Oh, how great it is to be carried by you in your arms as we rest our burdens on your shoulders. How great it is to sit on your lap as you listen to every word our hearts say. Being recognized as your child alone is the greatest honor every creation of yours can have. It also brings immeasurable joy in our hearts. Guide us always Lord to follow the flock you’re leading. Be our shepherd always for every decision we make and every step we take, we need you to govern our mind

Ways That Serving the Baptist Church Can Change You

And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, 25 not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching. -Hebrews 10:24-25 A churchgoer is not meant just to go to Manassas Baptist Church on days of obligation. Perhaps you’re still finding your way and where you feel called to serve, and that’s fine. But don’t let it take years of your life to figure out. Attending church is a blessing, and serving in any ministry is vital, no matter what you’re doing. And it’s not about feeling good or better about yourself; getting involved with church is just about desiring to serve God and His people. Serving in a Baptist Church increases one’s faith Through serving, God gave me a front row seat to seeing Him change people’s lives. That sounds a bit dramatic, but it’s true. One way to increase your faith is to read the Word of God (the Bible).  Romans 10:17 says, “Consequ

Romans 8:26, NIV, “In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans.” Dear God, let your Holy Spirit descend upon us all and over the whole world. To guide and enlighten our paths as we walk this earth toward your Kingdom in heaven. To uncover the greatness of your power before our mortal eyes. You are our King and our God. Let your holy infiniteness reign in every heart of your people since your ways and thoughts are higher than ours. Our King and our God, send your Holy Spirit so that we may see our own weakness and help us put them into prayers. We lift our hands and yearning hearts to you, Father, we ask for your blessing through your Holy Spirit and your son Jesus Christ. Amen.
